8 SEKUNDEN

8 SEKUNDEN is the initiatory journey of a Franco-German family in the footsteps of Raymond Vinclair, an unknown grandfather secretly guillotined by the Nazis for an important resistance action in Germany.

With his two young children and his German wife, Jean-Marie Vinclair strives to reweave the link with this broken memory and questions the causes of oblivion in the meanders of history.

The series extends 8 SEKUNDEN through 8 episodes devoted to the search for and the meeting of several descendants of prisoners who were able to escape from the Osnabrück prison camp thanks to Raymond Vinclair and his accomplices.

Director's approach

The Hungarian writer Ferenc Molnar said that "man only dies when he is forgotten". For me, making this film is a way of probing the failing memory, of questioning the transmission between generations. Beyond my personal history, I would like the film to question the transmission of the memory of the war on either side of the Rhine. My generation grew up with the Franco-German friendship, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the construction of Europe. Married to a German woman and father of two boys, I live at the heart of this double culture, which the tears of yesterday sometimes continue to haunt. Like Shakespeare's ghost, Raymond's ghost emerges from the past, speaks to us in the present and announces the future. By associating my own family with the resolution of the "Raymond Vinclair case," I intend to renew the thread of a transmission that was once broken.
